About Donna and John

S/V Halcyon is owned by John Pittman and Donna Ferron. John was on active duty in the US Coast Guard stationed in Sitka, Alaska and then aboard USCGC Alert in the Caribbean. Donna is a current US Coast Guard Auxiliary member. The primary purpose of this blog is to document our sailing adventures for our family and friends. One thing the Pittman/Ferron team knows how to do is turn the simplest task into an adventure!

To keep Halcyon afloat, John works for a company that provides industrial calibrations and troubleshooting and Donna is a technical writer and business analyst and is also writing a novel set on the Chesapeake Bay.

They live in Pennsylvania and Halcyon lives in Rock Hall, MD.

Nice to hear you like the Mazel Tug…It is in charter with Gratitude Yachting in the summers and with us in NC in the winters…This year – off to Key West!!!

I have enjoyed your blog. great job. I am working on my own NEXTBOAT and the one nagging thing in the back of my mind is when my cruising kitty runs dry a few years from now will I be mentally capable of abandoning the lifestyle and come back to work? I, Similarly to John, do industrial Automation Instrumentation and Commissioning work. I work on the road and am looking to start cruising after this project is completed about a year from now. have you figured out a way to replenish the kitty down the road using our skill set without having to park NEXTBOAT on the hard and fly to the states to get a job. cheers to the dream.

Thank you, Gerard. We’re still working on the plan for keeping the kitty happy which is one reason we haven’t purchased the next boat yet. I believe strongly in buying the boat for where you boat NOW and we’re happy with the boat we have for the Chesapeake Bay. We’re still tossing around the potential work scenarios. Good luck to you!
